I saw this flick on DVD during the Idul Fitri holiday. I bought several DVDs the day before the holiday, but somehow only managed to watch 2 of them during the whole week. Note to self: time management is essential!
This family movie puts Bob Munro (Robin Williams) as the usual busy father trying to keep up with his family life. Because of an impending and sudden business occassion, he had to dump the long-planned Hawaii family vacation. He then covertly and slyly rerouted the vacation destination to Colorado, where the business occassion would take place. He rented a very conspicuous RV and took the family on a road trip, supposedly to strengthen the family bond, while sneaked up every now and then to keep up with his work.
The plot is very predictable, and so are the jokes and the gags. The usual septic-tank gag, the wildly rolling unmanned RV, etc. Nothing’s new here. The pacing of the movie didn’t help either. Too bad for Robin Williams, I must say. His talent is wasted here.
But for a holiday family movie, this one’s not too bad. I’ll give it a 2 out of 5. But hey, you can read what the pro reviewers said about the movie here.
