This 21st installment in the Bond series puts a relatively unknown star, Daniel Craig, as the new 007. The story starts in an office block where Bond confronts and assasinate a snitch. Moments before the snitch meets his end, he kinda informs Bond that he finally gains the license to kill and the double-o title.
The movie follows the flavor-du-jour: prequels. So, basically this is the story about how Bond become the Bond we know and love all this time. Craig’s visage (which I personally think more suitable for an antagonist instead) supports this background story. His acting is nothing spectacular, but he has this well sculpted body that re-invented the superspy all over again.
But for me, this prequel sucks. The story is rather cheesy (all with the excessive romance), open ended (some moviegoers find the ending unsatisfactory), and lacks all the action and gadgetry that define a Bond movie. Imagine the horror: there’s no Q to dispense all of his cool gadgets! The pretty (but once again nothing stands out) Bond girls are luckily still there, though.
I’m giving this movie 2 out of 5.
