300

I was interested in this movie because it’s another adaptation from one of Frank Miller‘s graphic novels. This is his second original story after 2005’s Sin City. Graphic novels adaptations are always visually stunning. Add Frank Miller’s distinctive style, film-noir-esque, on top of that and you get a pleasing eye candy.

Sadly, the movie stopped at that. The story line wasn’t exactly strong. It tells about Leonidas’, king of Sparta, plight to fight King Xerxes’, king of Persia, vastly numbered army with only 300 men behind his back. When you can summarize a movie plot with only 20 words or less, you can definitely tell that not much is in the movie.

The movie was full with blood and gore. Apart from that, there isn’t really much to see. The fights itself isn’t inspiring, nor the acting, nor the dialogues. Even the compulsory prep-talks before the fights are not inspiring. It didn’t sent a chill down my spine like Braveheart‘s or even Independence Day‘s.

I’m giving the movie 2 out of 5. Extra kudos for the beautiful pictures. Too bad the plot was too flimsy. You can read what the pro reviewers said about the movie here.
