Ghost Rider

Another Marvel comic book ported into a movie. Yawn. The movie casts Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, a circus stunt motorcyclist who sold his soul to the devil to cure his father of his cancer. His father dies anyway, by the devil’s devious intent. Johnny gets drafted as the devil’s rider.

Teenage Johnny grows up to become a glorious stunt artist, performing all sorts of death-defying stunts, perhaps trying to kill himself to escape the satanic work-contract. Then came the day when the devil calls him out of reserve to battle his son and his demonic crews. The usual and tired storyline ensued. Johnny is blessed – or rather, cursed – with a demonic transformation as a motorbike-riding, flaming-chain-wielding, flaming skeleton, The Ghost Rider. Johnny meets his old love. Johnny battles with the bad guys to save the girl. Johnny wins. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Lucky I only paid half the ticket price, thanks to my new credit card’s promotion.

Combine a tired storyline, so-so acting and dialogues, sorry attempts for punchlines, standard special FX and you’ll come up with cheesy movies. This is one of those movies. I’ll give this movie a one out of five. You can read what the pro reviewers say here.
